Neti Pot

The Story: In Ayurvedic tradition, the practice of jal neti (cleansing the nasal passages), by using the neti pot, is a gentle yet powerful tool for nasal cleansing. The Ritual:

1. Begin by filling the neti pot with lukewarm, sterile saline solution. 

To prepare the saline solution for your neti pot, start with clean, distilled or previously boiled water cooled to a lukewarm temperature. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of non iodised, pure salt (preferably sea salt or kosher salt without additives) with 240 ml of the water. Stir until the salt fully dissolves. This isotonic solution closely matches the body's natural salt concentration, so it is safe to use for nasal cleansing. Use a fresh solution each time to maintain hygiene.

2. Lean over a sink or do this outside. Tilt your head sideways. Insert the spout gently into your upper nostril, allowing the saline to flow through your nasal cavity and come out of your lower nostril.

3. Breathe through an open mouth throughout the ritual. Repeat on the other side by tilting your head the opposite way.

4. When you've done both sides, gently blow your nose to remove any remaining solution. 

5. Clean your neti pot thoroughly after each use. Store in a dry, clean place.
